MMT has worked extensively in the area of mining. MMT has taken a position towards mining that most would consider radical, namely the complete halting of all mining acitivity in Honduras. MMT has organized numerous medical brigades to help those affected by the harmful health effects of mining activity.
In particular, MMT has worked with the residents of the Valle de Siria, in central Honduras, where there is a large gold mine, operated by Canadian-based company Goldcorp. Residents of Valle de Siria have had their health negatively effected by the toxic contamination that results from the mining. Most widespread are skin conditions as a result of arsenic in the water supply. Below you can see pictures of this. There are more photos available in our photo gallery under the "mining" folder.
